Functional and possibly load tests

At TECHARTSTAV we know that the flawless function of theatre and stage technology can only be fully tested in real operation under full load. Before putting new equipment into operation, after extensive renovation or as part of regular periodic inspections, functional and load tests are an absolutely key step. They provide definitive proof that lifting systems, stage pulls, tables and supporting structures can safely handle the planned load and crisis situations.

We provide complete load tests of stage technology, functional checks of safety circuits, tests of brake systems and verification of the load capacity of stage equipment throughout the Czech Republic. Our team of experienced engineers and technicians has the necessary equipment and professional qualifications to perform tests according to the strictest ČSN and EN standards.

What do we test during functional and load tests?

Our professional testing covers all mechanical, hydraulic and electrical technological units used on theatre stages, in cultural centres, multi-purpose halls and on concert stages. We perform tests for:

  • Upper mechanical equipment (manual, counterweight and motorized stage lifts, point lifts, light bridges and gratings),
  • Lower mechanical equipment (stage tables, drop-offs, turntables, orchestra pits and levelling bridges),
  • Stage and truss structures (aluminum and steel trusses, roofing and anchor points),
  • Hoist and winch systems (chain and rope lifting units),
  • Fire and safety curtains including tests of falling speed and travel.

What types of tests do we perform and how do they proceed?

For testing We approach stage technology with uncompromising precision. We use calibrated certified weights, dynamometers and diagnostic devices.

1. Static load tests

During a static test, we verify the structural strength and stability of the equipment in a stationary state. The equipment is loaded with a test load exceeding the normal nominal load capacity (usually by 25–50% depending on the specific standard and type of equipment). We monitor the deflection of the beams, the behavior of the anchor points, the condition of the welds and whether there is any permanent deformation of the material.

2. Dynamic load tests

This test checks the behavior of the technology in motion at full operating load (usually 110% of the nominal load capacity). We test the smoothness of start-up and stop, the functionality of frequency converters, the synchronization of drives and the stability of the line during acceleration and deceleration.

3. Functional tests of brakes and safety elements

We verify the system’s response to limit and emergency conditions. We perform tests of the effectiveness of operational and safety emergency brakes, tests of arresters during simulated drive failure, checks of limit switches, overload sensors and the reaction time of CENTRAL STOP push-button systems.

4. Fire curtain tests

We perform simulations of fire alarm announcements and test the trouble-free automatic launch of the fire curtain by its own weight, compliance with the prescribed stop times and the tightness of the contact edges.

Outcomes and benefits of TECHARTSTAV tests

  • Official Load Test Protocol: You will receive detailed technical documentation with measured values, test procedures and a clear opinion of the inspection technician, which serves as an indisputable document for approvals, insurance companies and state supervisory authorities.
  • Operational reliability and zero risk: You will receive 100% certainty that your equipment will safely carry the declared weight of decorations, lights or people and that the safety brakes will function reliably in an emergency.
  • Prevention of accidents and damage: Early detection of weak points in supporting structures or worn brake linings will prevent costly accidents and possible injuries on stage.
  • Flexible implementation: Test procedure we will adapt to your schedule and test plan in order to minimize restrictions on the hall’s operation.

How does the cooperation work?

  1. Preparation and calculation: Based on the technical documentation, we determine the required test loads and test methodology according to applicable standards.
  2. Weighing and installation of weights: Our company will ensure the arrival of certified test loads and their safe attachment to the tested equipment.
  3. Performance of measurements and tests: Our expert team will carry out a complete series of static, dynamic and safety tests in the presence of an inspection technician.
  4. Handover of the report: You will receive a complete report on the tests performed with valid certification for further safe operation.

Do not risk the health of the performers or the staff. Entrust functional and load tests of stage equipment to the experts from TECHARTSTAV.

Types of revisions

Upper mechanics

The upper stage mechanics include all equipment located above the stage, in the grid (ropeway) and in the technical bridges.

Bottom mechanics

Bottom stage mechanics includes all technical equipment built into the stage floor, understage, and adjacent technical spaces.

Curtains and textile systems

Stage textile systems include both mechanical drive parts and guide rails, as well as the fabric pieces themselves.

Scenic constructions

Scenic constructions form the backbone of every theater production, concert, or social event.

Electrical and control systems

Electrical and control systems represent the brain and nervous system of the entire theater, cultural center, or multifunctional hall.

Lighting technology and its curtains

Stage lighting is not only an aesthetic element, but above all a set of powerful electrical devices suspended from complex supporting structures directly above the auditorium and stage.

Inspection of steel ropes, chains, connecting and suspension elements

All stage moves, lighting bridges, sound systems, and demanding decorations are held above the heads of performers and spectators by steel ropes, load-bearing chains, binding devices, and suspension elements.

Checking documentation, load capacity markings and operating regulations

Checking documentation, load capacity markings and operating regulations is a prerequisite for trouble-free audits, inspection tests and daily safe operation.
