When an ambitious investor, architectural vision, and precise construction execution come together, the result is a project that reaches far beyond local boundaries. This is precisely what was achieved in Bordovice near Frenštát pod Radhoštěm. The new building project, completed by our company TECHARTSTAV a.s. as the general contractor, has been awarded a diploma for its nomination for the Building of the Year 2026 title, seamlessly building upon its previous recognition in the Moravian-Silesian Region Building of the Year competition, where it received an Honorary Mention.
Jury Recognition: High-Quality Architecture Belongs in Rural Areas
Receiving the diploma in the national Building of the Year 2026 competition is a tremendous honor for both our team and the municipality. In its official evaluation, the expert jury highlighted the key strengths of the facility:
“The jury appreciates the visually simple and convincing architectural design of the sports hall, which sensitively responds to the scale of the village and the surrounding landscape. A rational structural and operational concept, quality craftsmanship with materials, and the use of natural light create a functional and refined environment for sports and community life. The building demonstrates that quality contemporary architecture has an important place even in a small village setting.”

From a Greenfield Site to a Modern Community Hub
We broke ground on a greenfield site back in 2022. Our team was tasked with delivering a modern sports and social facility end-to-end, handling everything from initial earthworks to handing over the keys. We shared a detailed look at the completed build in our post on the initial handover of the hall, which also features a video showcase.

Unique Construction: Timber Takes Center Stage
Designed by architect Ing. arch. Tomáš Kudělka (Kudělka s.r.o.), the project combines traditional renewable materials with modern structural engineering. The building features an innovative structural system uniting cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels with glued laminated timber (BSH) beams, forming large-span portal frames throughout the main hall.
Inside, exposed large-format timber surfaces create a warm and inviting atmosphere. This natural interior contrasts elegantly with the exterior building envelope, which pairs a traditional rendered facade with a contemporary ventilated expanded-metal cladding on the sports hall section. The overall building volume is step-terraced and partially set into the terrain, minimizing its visual impact on the neighboring residential surroundings.
Top-Tier Facilities for Sports and Culture
The sports hall offers a main playing surface measuring 24 × 12 meters with a clear headroom height of 6 meters. It is designed to accommodate both athletic training and local community events:
- Sports Activities: Premium conditions for floorball, futsal, volleyball, footvolley, and badminton.
- Cultural Events: Carefully planned acoustics and a versatile floor layout allow for hosting concerts, galas, theatrical performances, and community meetings.
- Comprehensive Amenities: Includes modern locker rooms, sanitary facilities, a club room with a fully fitted kitchen, and an on-site bar/catering setup.
