This was the challenge handed to our engineering team at TECHARTSTAV a.s. when we undertook the design and engineering for the Kosmos Cinema in Třinec. Below is an inside look at how we transformed the municipality’s ambitious vision from blueprint to completion.
Our Role: From Design to On-Site Supervision
Comprehensive renovation of public infrastructure demands complete alignment between architectural intent, specialized engineering disciplines, and regulatory compliance.
For the project owner (the City of Třinec), TECHARTSTAV a.s. served as the general design contractor and engineering consultant. Our mandate extended far beyond updating plans; we led the complex coordination of multi-disciplinary engineering teams to ensure full buildability within a historical structural shell.

- Complete Design Documentation: We developed the structural engineering, room acoustics, HVAC and cooling systems, high/low-voltage electrical engineering, and technical integration for full digital cinema re-equipment.

Preserving a modernist landmark while introducing cutting-edge technology required solving complex engineering hurdles.
The primary technical challenge involved the structural appraisal and rehabilitation of the building’s atypical cable roof system, suspended by 78 steel cables. We engineered a lightweight roof assembly that maintained structural equilibrium without overloading historic cable anchorages while meeting modern thermal efficiency standards.
Concurrently, we designed specialized acoustic wall treatments and mechanical equipment isolation in the auditorium. This eliminated structural vibrations and unwanted reverberation, creating a pristine acoustic environment for film screenings and live events.
Double Regional Victory & Record Attendance
Industry recognition from the regional governor and expert jury confirmed that rigorous upfront engineering protects project owners from cost overruns and delays.
On October 2, 2026, our design representative Jan Beneš received the awards at Landek Park in Ostrava alongside Třinec Mayor Věra Palkovská and Cinema Director Regina Eichler. Competing against 56 nominated projects across the Moravian-Silesian Region, our design won both the Governor’s Award and the Jury Award.
